Are Reusable Sanitary Pads more Hygienic than Disposable Pads?

Welcome back to my (semi)regular blog! Today we are addressing a few Frequently Asked Questions. If you are new to the reusable pad scene, chances are you would like to know the answer to these questions as well!

Here is Question Number One:

  • Are reusable sanitary pads as hygienic as disposables?

What a good question! To some people, the thought of washable sanitary pads just doesn’t SEEM as clean as single-use disposables. And if you haven’t used them before, it’s totally understandable.

The good news is that they are EQUALLY sanitary, if used correctly.

‘If used correctly’…That phrase normally sparks the second question, which is related to the fear that reusables are somehow a really high maintenance option. (Rest assured; they aren’t!) You just need to give them a rinse, then wash and dry thoroughly before reusing!

Let’s have a look at that further in Question Number Two:

  • Are reusable sanitary pads hard work to clean and maintain?

The quick answer is NO. They are not hard work to clean and maintain. BUT… they do take a little more thought. You can’t simply use and toss! (Well, you could, but that’s not recommended! It would cost a fortune!)

Disposable Pads Use:

With disposables, you simply keep stocked up on single use pads. Use and toss. (Did you know the average woman will use about 11,000 disposable sanitary products in her lifetime?!? That’s a lot of waste!)

However, it’s quick and easy… (although you do have to keep on top of emptying stinky bins! Not so much fun.)

Reusable Pad Care:

Reusables do require a bit more thought, but this doesn’t mean it’s hard. You just want to keep on top of the laundry, otherwise you might run out of pads!

The process is Use. Rinse. Wash. Dry.

Pretty simple! Bonuses are that DewDrops pads can be machine rinsed/washed and tumble dried!

Out and About:

When you’re out it’s easy to put used pads in a pad wrapper (waterproof bag) and pop into your handbag. Take home, rinse and wash. Dry.

Easy stuff, but you just have to remember to do it.

Question Number Three:

  • What if I am on holiday and don’t have access to a washing machine?

Hey, if you’re on holiday and don’t have access to a washing machine, don’t stress! You can either keep using your reusable pads and handwashing them, OR… just take a break. Save yourself some laundry and use disposables on holiday!

If you have any other questions, let me know! I will try my best to answer them😊

Till next time!

Spring Sale – 3 x Ultra Pads for $60!

Spring is here! It’s a good time to declutter your wardrobe, put away your winter jackets and hang out all your summerwear.

While you are going through your clothing, make sure to have a look through your pad/reusable undies stash. Are your items still suitable for purpose? Remember that period undies have a shorter life span than pads, and may be showing wear and tear. If they are frayed, stretched out, or just don’t fit right anymore, then it’s time to replace them.

If you find that you are constantly running out of regular or ultra pads, maybe now is the time to stock up on that size. We are running a spring sale now, so get in touch at sales@dewdrops.nz.

All our products are handcrafted and of premium quality.

Please be aware that if you place a large order there may be a slight processing time, as I will be sewing orders as they come in!

Christmas is Coming!

I know it doesn’t seem like it yet, but Christmas is only just around the corner! The weather is definitely starting to get that springtime feeling, and it’s inspired me to get sewing! For those fellow crafters out there, you know it takes time to get all your sewing projects organised in time for these big events:) We like to start early!

If you have any ladies in your life who would like an ‘out of the ordinary’ gift that is as practical as it is pretty, you might consider a reusable period kit. (All right, you might not want to stick this one under the Christmas tree with the rest of the family presents, but it’s still worth considering!)

I know someone out there will question me on WHY it’s a good gift option… Isn’t it a bit mean giving someone such a ‘practical’ gift? We’ve all heard the stories about people receiving vacuum cleaners for their birthdays and being upset about it. (I’ve never really understood this… Someone, please gift me a stick vacuum! Ha ha. They’re the best, and mine is slowly falling apart. I definitely wouldn’t complain!) Sorry, got distracted there, but just in case that person asking is you, here are a few good reasons for why a reusable pad kit is something to love!

  • DewDrops pads are made of ORGANIC cotton, while many disposable sanitary products are known to contain toxins. (Not exactly what you want to wear close to your body!) This makes it a perfect gift for someone who cares for their health.
  • It will save them MONEY. No, really. The average woman uses approximately 11,000 disposable sanitary products in her lifetime. Reusable pads can last up to five years (or possibly more!) with proper care.
  • It saves WASTE. Good for the planet… but seriously, it’s also nice not having to deal with smelly sanitary bins in the home. (And just because it’s a common question: no, it’s not hard to care for reusables. Simply rinse, machine wash and dry.)
  • They are PRETTY. Like really pretty, and made in various prints and colours to suit anyone. Check out our photo gallery for a few options to inspire you!

In the meantime, I will get back to sewing. 🙂 Till the next catch-up!
