What are they? Soap nuts are amazing natural cleaners! They have a variety of uses, but these nuts are ideal for use as an eco-friendly, 100% natural and hypoallergenic laundry detergent. They are not technically a nut, but the dried fruit of the Sapindus Mukorossi tree.
How do they work? Soap nut shells contain a naturally occurring substance called saponin. When wet, this will create mild suds very similar to soap. Soap nuts are not only very effective at removing dirt from clothes, but due to their gentle and natural cleansing properties, they are especially suitable for people with eczema and sensitive skin. Try washing your cloth nappies with soap nuts to protect your baby’s delicate skin.
How do I use them? Simply pop 4-6 soap nuts in a muslin bag, put into your washing machine with your clothing/nappies, and wash as normal. After washing, remove your soap nuts bag and let it dry. You will be able to use your soap nuts for several washes. You will know they are ready to be composted when they turn soft and grey.
How many washes do I get out of 250 grams? You should be able to get about 90 washes out of a 250 gram bag. Suitable for both front and top loaders.
