Are Reusable Sanitary Pads more Hygienic than Disposable Pads?

Welcome back to my (semi)regular blog! Today we are addressing a few Frequently Asked Questions. If you are new to the reusable pad scene, chances are you would like to know the answer to these questions as well!

Here is Question Number One:

  • Are reusable sanitary pads as hygienic as disposables?

What a good question! To some people, the thought of washable sanitary pads just doesn’t SEEM as clean as single-use disposables. And if you haven’t used them before, it’s totally understandable.

The good news is that they are EQUALLY sanitary, if used correctly.

‘If used correctly’…That phrase normally sparks the second question, which is related to the fear that reusables are somehow a really high maintenance option. (Rest assured; they aren’t!) You just need to give them a rinse, then wash and dry thoroughly before reusing!

Let’s have a look at that further in Question Number Two:

  • Are reusable sanitary pads hard work to clean and maintain?

The quick answer is NO. They are not hard work to clean and maintain. BUT… they do take a little more thought. You can’t simply use and toss! (Well, you could, but that’s not recommended! It would cost a fortune!)

Disposable Pads Use:

With disposables, you simply keep stocked up on single use pads. Use and toss. (Did you know the average woman will use about 11,000 disposable sanitary products in her lifetime?!? That’s a lot of waste!)

However, it’s quick and easy… (although you do have to keep on top of emptying stinky bins! Not so much fun.)

Reusable Pad Care:

Reusables do require a bit more thought, but this doesn’t mean it’s hard. You just want to keep on top of the laundry, otherwise you might run out of pads!

The process is Use. Rinse. Wash. Dry.

Pretty simple! Bonuses are that DewDrops pads can be machine rinsed/washed and tumble dried!

Out and About:

When you’re out it’s easy to put used pads in a pad wrapper (waterproof bag) and pop into your handbag. Take home, rinse and wash. Dry.

Easy stuff, but you just have to remember to do it.

Question Number Three:

  • What if I am on holiday and don’t have access to a washing machine?

Hey, if you’re on holiday and don’t have access to a washing machine, don’t stress! You can either keep using your reusable pads and handwashing them, OR… just take a break. Save yourself some laundry and use disposables on holiday!

If you have any other questions, let me know! I will try my best to answer them😊

Till next time!
